UK’s acclaimed voice for sleep health and well-being, The London Sleep Centre (LSC), today connected with audiences to shed light on sleep disorders to introduce its Dubai affiliate located at the Dubai Healthcare City in UAE.
In an event held at The Fairmont Palm, Dubai; Dr. Irshaad Ebrahim (Consultant Neuropsychiatrist and LSC’s Medical Director) introduced the clinic and the importance of sleep health to a social gathering that included the media and invitees.
Associated with The Harley Street UK based London Sleep Centre, it’s affiliate at the Dubai Healthcare City is the only fully integrated Sleep Diagnostic and Treatment facility in the GCC. The event highlighted the sleep disorder issues that can cause significant health problems and can have serious effects on specific diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, obesity and depression which can remain undiagnosed in many cases. Insomnia, Sleep Apnoea and sleep walking are just a few of the conditions which contribute to sleep deprivation.
At The London Sleep Centre, its philosophy is based on the belief that every individual is unique and requires a treatment plan that incorporates the individual within their wider context as part of a family, community and society. Which is why it combines science, medicine, psychology, social and holistic methods in its approach to every individual presenting with a sleep problem. The centre provides unique integrated set of sleep diagnostic treatments and services and has on its panel an experienced team of Sleep Physicians, Sleep Neuropsychiatrists, Psychologists, Dental Sleep Medicine Sleep Specialists and Sleep Physiologists and Technologists.
Introducing sleeping disorders to the audience, Dr. Irshaad Ebrahim said; “Sleep Apnoea can be a very dangerous condition and has been linked to heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke. It is characterised by pauses in breathing or instances of infrequent breathing during sleep that’s commonly caused by snoring. When not breathing, the oxygen levels fall and shoots up blood pressure. Unfortunately when a sufferer is breathing normally even while awake, the problem of low oxygen levels continues and therefore the blood pressure remains high during a whole 24 hour sleep-wake cycle causing further ill-effects.”
Stressing upon the importance of taking heed of sleep disorders; he summarized that, “If you are suffering from a sleep disorder, it is important you seek treatment from a health professional. The processes underlying abnormalities of sleep and wake can be quite varied and can involve multiple organ systems. Moreover, underlying psychiatric illnesses, or their treatment, can complicate the treatment of sleep disorders. It is essential for sufferers to seek professional help in order to prevent further discomfort and resultant illnesses.”
