Ahead of next month’s 3rd annual edition of its themed “Neon Night Run”, Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC hosted a pre-run briefing for participants at the Fitness 180.
The 12-plus girls and women-only fun run has rapidly become a popular event in the UAE sporting calendar, with increasing numbers of entrants being welcomed each year. Split into two different length courses, participants can choose between a 5km or 10km course. In its first edition, the Neon Night Run won the “Fitness Event of the Year” at the 2014 Fit Awards.
The briefing is now a regular pre-run event that offers guidelines and advice for participants on how to prepare for the event, both physically and nutritionally. Guidelines include: A pre-run training and workout plan, advice on appropriate clothing for the event, nutritional and hydration recommendations, and running techniques.
Cara Toomer the Fitness consultant at SLC said: “For any sort of endurance activity, preparation is key. With many amateur and first-time runners set to take part, Sharjah Ladies Club strives to ensure that runners have all the information and advice available.”
“Of course, while many participants will already know of the health benefits of running, there are specific nutritional and physical demands that an endurance run places on the body. Therefore, we hold this pre-run briefing and invite participants to attend so as to inform – or reassure – runners about the best way to prepare for the event,”
While all who finish their chosen distance will receive a participant’s medal, there is also a prize fund for those who make it onto the winners’ podium. Those who finish in first, second or third, in the 10km run, will win AED 7,000, AED 6,000 and AED 5,000, respectively. For those entering the 5km run, a podium finish will offer winning prize money of AED 5,000, AED 3,000 and AED 2,000, for the top three finishers.
If participants still have the energy, Sharjah Ladies Club has also announced that it will be holding a post-event Zumba party, for all participants, at Fitness 180.
Registration for the event, to be held on 26 February 2016 from 6pm – 9pm starting outside Skyline University College in Sharjah University City, can be done at www.premieronline.com or by contacting Sharjah Ladies Club directly.
