SCRF workshops entertain children and unlock their talents

Dozens of children are enjoying daily entertaining activities and educational workshops designated for them as part of the Children's Programme during the 7th edition of the Sharjah Children's Reading Festival, organized by the Sharjah Book Authority, SBA, and continue until May 2nd under the theme “Discover my City”.

The festival yesterday saw an overwhelming interaction by children with the 30-minute TV programme broadcast ‘Tasaly’ on MBC3, which aims to develop children's skills and encourage their passion for challenge and knowledge, and further to instil a love of reading among children, which is one of key goals of the festival.

Among the daily events held alongside the festival is a workshop titled 'Talents' presented by Dr Tayseer Sobhi Yameen who aims to educate families about scientific methods that enable them to help their children overcome the problem of poor concentration and hyperactivity.
Speaking about the purpose of the Talents workshop, Dr Tayseer Yameen said:" We aim through this workshop to introduce families to problems involving poor concentration and lack of focus, hyperactivity, and lack of discipline, which are usually related to genetic reasons. If these problems not treated at early age can continue through life."

Dr Yameen underlined that many children with hyperactivity are talented, and hence it would be possible to make use of this excessive activity and direct towards useful activities, noting that the workshop "Talents" aims through some exercises to find out children who suffer from this problem. He pointed out that these cases can either be treated clinically, or by chemical substances that help reduce children's excessive activity that can also be used in community activities for the good of everyone.

He stressed the possibility of guiding and directing children, who suffer from excessive activity, towards physical and cognitive activities that help improve their focus and use high-effort thinking, to reduce excess activity.

The Talents Workshop, taking place on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, from 5-6 pm, is held as part of the Sharjah Children's Reading Festival, which features 2028 events, including a wide array of entertaining and creative activities designed specifically for children, notably art and scientific workshops, theatrical performances and art shows, storytelling readings, competitions, and puppet shows.
