Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi participates in the UAE commemoration day

Under the theme “The UAE remembers” and with pride and gratitude for all the sacrifices of the UAE courageous martyrs who passed away in order to uphold the flag of the country and maintain stability, security and peace in the UAE, Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi marked the second anniversary of the UAE commemoration day, on its campus in the presence and participation of all the university’s members as well as the administrative and faculty staff and the students.

The participation of Sorbonne Abu Dhabi in the UAE commemoration day celebrations emphasizes the pivotal stage the UAE is going though in its history, one where solidarity between the leadership, the armed forces and the people is thrust into the limelight. The UAE commemoration day is also a day of pride, unity and remembrance and an occasion to honor our martyrs who are a source of pride and inspiration for the current and future generations. Commemoration Day aims to highlight the important role of the martyrs’ mothers, fathers and families in raising them and supporting them in their education journeys as well as to underline the support provided by the wise leadership to the martyrs’ families, in order to promote the values of loyalty, patriotism and sacrifice that have characterized UAE nationals and have been passed on from the ancestors.

Dr. Fatima Saeed Al Shamsi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administrative Affairs at Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi said: “Allocating a day to honor our martyrs who are our heroes shows the strength of our nation’s unity and cohesion which is characterized by the priceless sacrifices of our martyrs. Hence, we can never be able as a nation to express our pride in our martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of the UAE’s peace and prosperity. We pray that our beloved nation shall always be the symbol of pride, honor, justice, equality, and a role model for other nations, under the visionary leadership of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces”.

Dr. Al Shamsi added: “Based on the fact that we are an Emirati University first which vision is aligned with our wise leadership’s vision, we are always keen to involve our students in the National events, to promote the Emirati culture and highlight all its achievements and sacrifices to provide a decent, safe and secure life as well as tranquility for its people and residents alike. Commemoration Day is a very important national and human occasion for our students to express their long-lasting love and loyalty to our beloved UAE and affirm their gratitude of the country’s heroes for providing them with security and prosperity”.

The UAE commemoration day event started in Sorbonne Abu Dhabi by flying the UAE flag at half-mast at 8:00 am. At 11:30 am, the university’s staff joined in “One minute of Silent Prayer” followed by the flag’s hoisting accompanied by the UAE National Anthem.
