Aldar Academies Students Achieve ‘A’ Grades in I/GCSEs Twice That of the UK National Average

Al Yasmina and Al Bateen schools, both part of Aldar Academies, one of the UAE’s largest providers of world-class, private education, have surpassed 2014’s already excellent I/GCSE results with this year’s marks. The pass rate across Aldar Academies for all I/GCSE examinations sat was an incredible 97%. The ADEC Band A rated schools have proven again to be excellent examples of Aldar Academies’ rising prominence within Abu Dhabi’s community of private education providers.

Aldar Academies I/GCSE students achieved an outstanding A*/A grade in around half of the examinations taken, with 42%. This not only tops Aldar Academies’ marks from last year, where A*/A marks were at 34%, but is also double the UK’s national average (which sits at 21%). 395 Aldar Academies students sat the I/GCSEs this year (216 at Al Yasmina and 179 at Al Bateen), with around 30 students achieving 9 or more A*/A marks in all the examinations which they sat. Furthermore, students achieved A* to C in around 87% of entries, which is also well above the UK average of 68%, and an improvement on Aldar Academies’ 2014 average of 80%.

Also indicative of Aldar Academies’ dedication to the pursuit of innovation and technological excellence is the success of students in scientific subjects, where more than 50% achieved A*/A marks. This includes 53% in Biology, 54% in Chemistry, and 45% in Physics. Since its inception, Aldar Academies has been committed to cultivating 21st century skillsets in their students; a world class scientific education preparing students for more advanced study and ultimately entry into high technology fields is a top priority for the institution.

In addition to strong marks in the sciences, a remarkable 91% of Aldar Academies who sat Arabic achieved an A*/A. Aldar Academies has fully embraced ADEC’s Arabic language and Islamic social studies syllabus, and works diligently to further enrich the teaching of Arabic language and culture.

Two of Aldar Academies’ highest performing year 11 students this year were Emirati: Sarah Alzaabi from Al Bateen Secondary School and Haya Al Ameri from Al Yasmina School. Sarah achieved 11 A*/A marks, in Biology Chemistry, English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Arabic, Design Technology, and Geography. Haya received 11 A* grades, which is an incredible accomplishment.

Peter Carpenter, Director of Education for Aldar Academies, commented on the I/GCSE examinations: “This is an excellent set of results and a notable improvement on previous years. Across academies we have seen around a 10% increase in the number of students achieving 5 A* to C, including in English and Mathematics. Also, to have A and A* results in around half of all examination entries is a testament to the hard work of all our students and staff, and the excellent partnership we enjoy with parents.”
