University Hospital Sharjah opens Neuro Spinal Clinic

New clinic forms part of expansive 2015 strategy

The University Hospital Sharjah has recently opened a fully equipped Neuro spinal surgery clinic, which provides quality medical services to patients from across the UAE. The clinic deploys the latest including some of the most progressive and sophisticated imaging technology available for head and spine.

Opening the new clinic has enabled University Hospital Sharjah to offer new services such as pituitary gland tumour, spinal tumour, and microscopic nerve surgery, spinal and cervical disc herniation treatments, and many more.

Furthermore, UHS launched its new advanced treatments for spinal problems, cervical pain, and lower back pain, which are globally increasing due to modern lifestyles. These treatments will integrate the services provided by the recently opened nervous system clinic.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Michael Stroud, CEO of UHS, said: “UHS is constantly examining the healthcare needs of the community and is committed to provide the utmost quality of treatment and healthcare services.
Opening the neuro and spinal surgery clinic and the highly experienced team of specialists and consultants who will run the clinic, will help raise our profile as one of the leading healthcare providers in the region.”

In the same regard, Dr. Kassem El-Shunnar FRCS (SN), CCST, Consultant Neurosurgeon said: “The new clinic has launched its services to patients in spinal and cervical disc herniation treatments and is gearing up to launch more sophisticated surgeries at the hospital very soon. I think the hospital’s current status with regard to upgrading technologies on regular basis and the highly experienced medical teams will give the hospital a competitive edge internationally in terms of providing these complicated and rare services. We expect optimal success with this clinic.”

Dr. Kassem El-Shunnar is a veteran Consultant Neurosurgeon from UK with 25 years of experience and has performed numerous complicated surgeries and treatments in the region. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in the MRCS examination. He has conducted high-level research that has been published in global medical periodicals and discussed at international conferences; the most recent of which was discussed at an international neurosurgery conference held in South Korea.

University Hospital Sharjah has announced a series of new medical services for the local healthcare community that will be announced successively as part of its 2015 strategy. The new services will significantly reduce the need for patients to travel overseas for treatment.
