acha Modolo and Robert Ferrari riders part of the UCI World Tour team, UAE Team Emirates, finished in top 10 at stage 3 of the famous Tirreno-Adriatico race this Friday 10th of March.
After a first downhill stretch, a short climb (with 3-4% gradients) lead to the heart of the city, where it marked the beginning of the home straight, with just a mild bend and running slightly uphill (with 2-3% gradients) on asphalt road.
Sacha Modolo commented on his finish: "We were all focused on this stage, which was important for us. It feels incredible to be in top 5 for stage 3 as we were competing against many other top sprinters and our team still performed very well. Of course the podium would have been even better.”
Riding alongside Modolo and Ferrari are fellow UAE Team Emirates riders: Rui Costa, Vegard Stake Laengen, Marco Marcato, Filippo Ganna, Marko Kump and Matej Mohoric.
Modolo added:" We were forced to breakaway at roughly 500 meters to go because there wasn’t enough space on the left side of the road. Ferrari was great in getting me in great position to begin my sprint at 300 meters. We tried to make up for the gap however by then it was a bit difficult to do so."
Marco Marzano, Sporting Director of UAE Team Emirates commented: "Today the stage was very important for us, we had the opportunity to put to test our months of training at the sprint. The team was very determined and I am pleased with their performance for stage 3 and look forward to the remainder of the stages. We are in the top 5, and even though I believe we could’ve clinched the podium this is still a very good result. Modolo’s sprint was good and Ferrari did a great job in launching him for the final kilometres."
