Ministry of Economy Appoints New Trade Attaché for UAE Embassy in India

The Ministry of Economy has announced the appointment of Ahmad Sultan Al-Falahi as the new Trade Attaché for the UAE Embassy in New Delhi, India. The appointment of Al-Falahi is in line with the leadership’s policy of supporting the UAE’s trade offices overseas and is jointly coordinated by the Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to his appointment as Trade Attaché in the Ministry of Economy, Ahmad Sultan Al-Falahi worked at JAFZA as Sales Director for Europe and the Americas. Earlier, he served as General Trade Director at Dry Docks World. He has also completed a successful tenure at Dubai Maritime City as Regional Sales Director for the MENA region. Al-Falahi is a member of the Dubai Leaders Program since 2008.

Announcing the appointment, His Excellency Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary for Foreign Trade and Industry, Ministry of Economy, said: “The new trade attaché plays an integral part in the Ministry’s efforts to boost the stature of its trade office in India. India is a strategic trading partner for the UAE and trade ties between the two countries are very important for both sides. We wish Al-Falahi all the best in his new role.”

Abdullah Al-Saleh added: “India ranks first in terms of total trade volumes among the UAE’s trading partners, with balance of trade reaching US$28 billion in 2014, while the UAE investments in India have exceeded US$8 billion.”

Al-Saleh noted that the trade office offers support to the UAE businesses abroad through providing advice and consultation and acquainting them with local laws and legislations. The office also offers information on resources, commodities and contacts in addition to processing queries and requests.

He added that the UAE trade offices have been launched as a strategic initiative by the Ministry of Economy for boosting the country’s trade with international markets, developing strategic trade partnerships, accelerating the UAE’s exports to foreign markets, and increasing FDI flows to the UAE.

The UAE trade offices prepare economic reports on different countries, and provide suggestions and proposals for improving trade and economic relations between the UAE and partner countries. They also gather information and provide analysis relevant to issues that affect the UAE’s economy and trade in addition to communicating with concerned authorities abroad.

Furthermore, the UAE trade attaches are mandated to promote the UAE investment and business environment to prospective investors, participate in organizing UAE trade shows, and establish channels of contact with government officials and overseas businesses.
