The International School of Arts & Sciences (ISAS) has been a firm believer of the concept of ‘learning beyond the classroom’ and has always undertaken activities that help students reach their maximum potential. Recently, the school concluded a daylong trip to the Dubai International Airport.

This educational activity allowed the students to experience and develop an understanding of the Dubai International Airport operations and a glimpse of behind-the-scenes activities at the world’s busiest airport. The field trip kicked off with the students getting an overview of the information booths located at the airport, followed by visit to the X-Ray machines at departure gates. As the day passed, students were taken to the baggage drop area and passport control e-smart gate.

Mrs Samira Al Awadhi, Activities Coordinator at ISAS said: “We organize educational field trips on a regular basis that not only enhance their learning but also provide students with a new perspective. Our trip to the Dubai International Airport provided students with a detailed understanding and an insider’s view on airport operations.”

The students were taken to the passport control section or the smart gate where airport authorities explained why and how an eye scan is performed. The students were informed that without an emirates resident card, passport or an e-card one cannot enter through the smart gate. As part of the educational session, the students were also taken to an interesting section where smuggled goods like machetes, katanas to drugs, were captured. The trip ended with students being taken on a tram ride, which was arranged by the Chief of Airport Security, to visit various duty free stores where they were treated to some healthy delicious snacks.
