Dr. Nikita Trehan Specialist Gynae Laparoscopic Surgeon at International Modern Hospital, Dubai who operated the patient stated that this patient A.I from Fujairah was found to have a large mass reaching upto her rib margin. This was equivalent to 36 weeks size (as much as full term pregnancy size!) .

Dr. Nikita Trehan operated her laparoscopically (key hole surgery) and did a procedure called laparoscopic myomectomy (removal of fibroids leaving the uterus behind).These fibroids weighed 3.05 kg. We also performed an additional procedure called L.U.A.L (laparoscopic uterine artery ligation) to prevent the recurrence of fibroids (as fibroids are notorious for recurrence).

This is the largest fibroid removed laparoscopically in the UAE.

She further added that there are several advantages of laparoscopy over open surgery such as 1)minimal blood loss
2) minimal pain
3) Shorter duration of stay-1 to 2 days
4)less adhesions(bands of tissue which make organs stick to each other and lead to pain and infertility later).
