GEMS Education announces GEMS Sports Series in partnership with East Sports Management

GEMS Education, in partnership with East Sports Management (ESM) – the UAE’s leading sports services provider, has launched the GEMS Sports Series to create healthy and competitive sports capabilities among students within the GEMS network of schools.

The GEMS Sports Series will not only enable students to enjoy different sports but also help to compete against their peers in the UAE. The tournaments will also be used to identify individual sporting talent to train them further in their sports career.

The GEMS Sports Series will also have a number of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives including volunteering opportunities to contribute towards students’ community service.

In the future, the GEMS Sport Series will introduce events, tournaments and sporting experiences for all students, including those with different abilities. The programme will also aim to provide sports scholarship opportunities and development pathways to talented individuals identified through the tournaments, helping such athletes to further their education whilst focusing on the sport of their choice.

GEMS Sport Series supports Dubai Cares vision to increase children’s access to quality education around the world by raising awareness through the sports events and encouraging participants to contribute to the great initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Peter Burdon, Chief Schools Officer, GEMS Education, said: “Physical education has a great role to play in the personality development of a child. We at GEMS Education value the importance of sports in schools. Students who excel at a sport are also confident children with great self-esteem and self-worth. It is also within the sporting arena that peer acceptance is established and further developed.”

The series will see participation of over 3,500 students across five sporting events which are GEMS Triathlon, GEMS Football Cup, GEMS Sports Day, GEMS Swim Cup and GEMS Netball Cup. These events will be spread over the next few months.

James Bowring, Commercial Director, East Sports Management, said: “The impact GEMS Sport Series has already made on the students is both impressive and encouraging for several reasons. The GEMS Swim Cup created last year, along with existing events like the GEMS Triathlon, confirm that children and families have a great desire to compete and be active. We are simply giving them the stage to be the best they can be.

“We are thrilled to expand the GEMS Sport Series with new tournaments this year to benefit even more students and we also have our eye on bringing additional events to the series in the months and years ahead,” added James.
