Empower to take part in upcoming Campus Energy 2016 Conference in Austin, Texas

A senior delegation from Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, headed by HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Empower, has left for Austin, Texas, USA to participate in the IDEA Campus Energy Conference 2016 which will be held from 8 to 12 February.

Organised by IDEA under the theme "The Changing Landscape", the event will provide  insights into R&D, technology innovations, proven best practices and emerging policies to raise the bar of district cooling (DC) as well as to boost innovation and promote training and capacity building in this area.

HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Empower will meet with number of organisations to discuss the latest DC technology updates, and will also attend the IDEA board meeting.

Empower's involvement in this global event comes on the heels of its participation in Vienna Energy Forum 2015 in Austria, the 106th International District Energy Association (IDEA) Annual Conference and Trade Show in Boston, USA, the meeting of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

This year, IDEA's Campus Energy Conference will bring together a galaxy of industry experts to focus on peer exchange, best practices and business development. Moreover, case studies will be presented about assessing the benefit of energy efficiency and water preservation. The main sessions will also highlight the best technical ways to embed global practices to the industry. At the sidelines of the conference, a tradeshow will be held that will see the participation of machinery suppliers, system developers and consultants in the DC industry worldwide.

“In continuation to the series of global participation, we are taking part in IDEA Campus Energy 2016 conference in order to share our expertise, and meet influential pioneers in District Cooling globally, as well as other decision-makers from relevant energy sectors,” said Bin Shafar.

Participants at the conference will deliver presentations about the trends in DC industry, best practices for its growth, latest technologies to boost innovation as well as other topics such as master energy planning, thermal distribution and solutions, strategies in these fields, maintenance and operations of plants, and the latest trends in DC infrastructure.

“Our participation in this conference is in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in line with Dubai Plan 2021 which aims to make Dubai a smart, integrated, connected city that is sustainable with its resources. We feel DC industry cannot advance in the world without giving extra attention to the sustainability and efficiency as we did in the UAE,” added Bin Shafar.

Bin Shafar stressed that being the largest DC solutions provider in the world, Empower is committed to promote DC solutions especially since those solution are ideal to protect the environmental resources. He added that cooling consumes over 70% of electrical energy demand in countries that have hot weather through the year, and since those electrical resources depend on fossil fuels sources so the increase in electricity consumption for cooling harms the environment and economy and increases the carbon footprint.

“We find it essential to showcase the UAE District Cooling Case Study to the world, to encourage more cities to adopt proven reliable and sustainable cooling systems. We are achieving tangible saving in water and electricity, reducing carbon emissions, and raising the performance of the cooling system to secure effectiveness throughout the year,” added Bin Shafar.

Earlier, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) had chosen Empower as a partner of its ‘District Energy in Cities’ initiative. UNEP presented the ‘District Energy in Cities’ book, in which they selected Dubai as a ‘Business Model of District Cooling to Developing Cities’ and Empower was named as a partner to contribute to the initiative. Subsequently, the company conducted global visits to share its expertise and showcase its case studies.

Empower currently operates more than 1 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, among others.
