Dubai’s foremost community health initiatives join hands to support Wings for Life World Run

'My Community... A City for Everyone' and 'Good Move Dubai' are the Nation’s foremost community health initiatives, steered by Dubai Plan 2021, that will join hands to support the Wings for Life World Run taking place on Sunday, 08th May at Dubai Autodrome. This is the second year that Dubai is hosting the global charity run to raise funds to find a cure for spinal cord injury. The run will commence at 03pm Dubai time.  

Participants in Dubai will be joining runners in 33 countries around the world - across 34 tracks on 6 continents, and will include by some of the country’s and the region’s most influential sporting personalities including Emirati fitness ambassador Shaikha Al Qassimi, Mohammed Balooshi, the undisputed champion of Arab motocross, and local ambassadors Kaltham Obaid Al Matroushi, Chris Khouri and Jarrett Martin. Renowned TV celebrity Mustafa Agha will be behind the wheel of the Catcher Car, chasing participants of Wings for Life World Runners, in line with the tradition of the race’s unique moving finish line. This year will also see Elise Molvik, the first global winner of 2015, having run 54.79k on Norway’s stunning track, participating in Dubai.

The Good Move Dubai initiative was inaugurated through the launch of a unique smartphone app that offers users a virtual walkway. Users can choose to walk or cycle through the walkway that commences in Dubai, and goes around 38 cities across the world before concluding in Sydney. Each city is a new level and the fitness journey progresses based on the number of steps completed within the designated days allotted per level. The application rewards users for successful completion of the challenges presented on the walkway. The initiative’s community events are aimed to raise national awareness to protect the community’s welfare as well as encourage Dubai residents to adopt a healthier lifestyle by increasing physical activity.

"My Community... A City for Everyone" aims at turning Dubai into a disability-friendly city by the year 2020 through projects and initiatives that promote the participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the community, eliminating all obstacles that may stand in the way of them positively engaging in their environments, as capable individuals of society.

The UAE leg of the run is organized in partnership with Emirates NBD, XDubai, Dubai-based ambassador for action sports, and Dubai Sports Channel, the 24/7 sports channel.
