President Danilo Medina Sánchez of the Dominican Republic has received His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation. The meeting kicked off the chairman’s current visit to the country to take part in the inauguration of the first multimodal logistics center in the Dominican Republic, “Caucedo Logistics Center”, a joint venture between DP World and the Caucedo Development Corporation. The center is set up in the port of Caucedo, 25 kilometres from San Domingo, the political and commercial capital of the Dominican.
President Danilo Medina praised the UAE and Dubai particularly for placing great attention on promoting economic development in the Dominican Republic. He commended DP World’s effective role and engagement in enhancing the country’s infrastructure, through the development and operation of Caucedo port and its logistics center.
The president also expressed his country's strong willingness to continue strengthening trade and economic relations with the UAE for the best mutual interests of both nations.
For his part, the chairman of DP World praised the Dominican authorities for cooperating with and supporting the global terminal operator to play a vital role in the country’s economic development.
He stressed that DP World is committed to sustaining economic growth in the Dominican Republic, in line with the global role being played by the UAE in building economic capacities of all friendly countries as a key driver of global economy. That is being done in pursuance of the wise leadership’s vision and directives to take the UAE’s pioneering development experience and expertise to other nations around the world.
“With its prime location between Port Caucedo and Las Americas International Airport, Caucedo Logistics Center will provide regional distribution facilities for foreign and Dominican businesses connecting them to a comprehensive, efficient, logistics multimodal network provided by the Port of Caucedo and DP World Caucedo Terminal,” said Sultan Bin Sulayem. “Such advanced networking will further boost the Dominican Republic’s position as a regional hub of trade in the Caribbean.”
