Celebrate International Yoga Day with Talise Spa at Madinat Jumeirah
Special Sunset Yoga session to mark International Yoga Day on 21 June 2015
The award-winning Talise Spa at Madinat Jumeirah is set to celebrate the ‘International Day of Yoga’ on Dubai’s longest stretch of private beach. Celebrated for the first time on Sunday 21 June 2015, International Day of Yoga was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2014 with more than 175 countries co-sponsoring the resolution. Talise Spa Yoga and Wellbeing Consultant Vijay Sharma, will lead a 75-minute sun salutation session on Madinat Jumeirah’s 2km long private beach on 21 June. The session will involve a graceful sequence of 100 postures performed as a continuous exercise in recognition of the sun’s power and energy. Vijay says: “Beach yoga is an ideal outdoor activity to stay fit and healthy during Ramadan and throughout the summer. Living in Dubai, we spend so much time indoors and when practicing yoga outdoors, you connect with nature and breathe in the fresh air. It is low impact, combines stretching, breathing, meditation and relaxation to give multiple health benefits. I advise those fasting during Ramadan to perform gentle yoga asanas combined with Sithali pranayama (cooling breath) which is especially important during the Dubai heat. I also recommend Nadhi Sodahana pranayama (alternate nostril breathing) to balance the energy flow in the body.” Sunset yoga and morning beach yoga provide a holistic experience against the soothing sound of the waves. Vijay says it’s important to let your body cool down afterwards and staying hydrated is key. “Water helps the kidneys flush out toxins, which benefits your overall health and can also give your skin a healthy glow,” he explains. Outdoor yoga has become increasingly popular in Dubai over the past 12-18 months and Talise Spa, Madinat Jumeirah has increased outdoor classes to meet this demand. Starting from monthly Full Moon Yoga sessions (the first in Dubai when they were started nine years ago), Talise Spa has added sunset yoga and morning yoga sessions on Madinat Jumeirah’s private beach. The spa has also witnessed increased demand for weekend yoga retreats, which are hosted twice a year. To celebrate International Yoga Day on 21 June 2015 Talise Spa invites yoga enthusiasts to a special sunset yoga session that will include 100 sun salutations. --- • For high resolution photos click here. • Class starts at 6.30pm and are priced at AED80.
