Thousands of years of entertainment traditions from China are being showcased at the current edition of Dubai Summer Surprises with Mercato hosting the Beijing Chinese Circus daily until 19 July, as part of the mall’s circus fiesta. A key element of global cultural exchange, having performed for audiences around the world, the Beijing Chinese Circus includes diverse influences such as kung fu and martial arts, opera, theatre, and acrobatics.
Held twice daily at 4.15pm and 7.45pm, this renowned touring group will perform 25-minute live acts including glass balancing, high unicycles, and a ‘giraffe’ contortionist. Between presentations, shoppers may spot the vibrant colors and coordinated movements of the Chinese dragon parade roaming the four corners of the mall, giving shoppers and diners an incentive to stay to enjoy the full experience of the circus.
The Beijing Chinese Circus is a feast for the senses, with music, costumes, and physical feats that seem next to impossible, leaving audiences truly surprised by the skill of its performers. The Circus includes performers trained in the art of balancing scores of glasses using each limb and riding purpose-built bicycles at incredible heghts with multiple riders. Years of strength and flexibility training enable members of the Circus to contort their bodies in every direction, complemented by dramatic costuming and make-up effects.
