Arab Health supports Noor Dubai’s vision of a world free of blindness
Organisers of the recently concluded Arab Health Exhibition & Congress in Dubai have announced that a total of AED 50,000 was donated to the Noor Dubai Foundation as a result of the Arab Health ‘photo selfie’ campaign that took place during the show in January 2015. The Noor Dubai Foundation envisions a world where all individuals living in low income regions and suffering from visual disabilities have access to eye healthcare and are given equal and fair opportunities of treatment that will improve their quality of life. The latest worldwide estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO) state that over 285 million people are visually impaired. Of those, 39 million are blind and 246 million have low vision. Based on the latest estimates, a child goes blind every minute and an adult every 5 seconds. Arab Health is an annual gathering of the global healthcare industry to debate, discuss, share experiences, and examine approaches to the region’s health challenges. The four-day exhibition and medical congress took place at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre and featured the latest medical innovations from 4000 local and international exhibitors from across the globe. According to Vice-Chairman of Noor Dubai, HE Nasser Khalifa Al Budoor, Assistant Undersecretary Ministry of Health and Director of Dubai Medical District: “Noor Dubai's global focus on blindness prevention is a proud example of the UAE's determination to help those in need wherever they may be. Arab Health’s generous donation will see the Noor Dubai Foundation provide 100s of children with eye diseases - including cataract, strabismus, retinal disorders and glaucoma - with treatment, prevention and education initiatives.
