Annual fitness programme will kick off activity with three registration days – 17, 19, 20 September

Participants can now register online for Get Driver Fit and access the 2017 schedule of classes and locations, letting them get motivated and plan how they can make waves in their fitness routine.

Returning in September in what will be its fifth year, the seven-week fitness programme by FLASH Entertainment and National Health Insurance Company – Daman’s ActiveLife initiative, is back to help support a movement of fitness across the Capital, with more classes than in previous editions ensuring high energy and a fresh approach to physical activity.

As part of the 2017 schedule, GDF will offer a variety of class options including HIIT training, yoga, boxing fitness, core conditioning, beach circuits and ladies-only Zumba and yoga classes, all suitable for mixed fitness levels. Centred on the home of Yasalam, Yas Island, Get Driver Fit 2017 will host classes at key island locations, including Yas Links, Yas Beach and Gateway Park, in addition to other venues around Abu Dhabi such as Yas Marina Circuit, Umm al Emarat Park and Saadiyat Island.

Commenting on the 2017 edition of Yasalam’s Get Driver Fit, John Lickrish, CEO of FLASH Entertainment, said: “Now in its fifth edition we have evolved the programme to provide participants with free access to a broader range of classes at a number of new fantastic locations across the capital, making the programme easily accessible for all. GDF classes will be in the midst of the cooler months, an ideal time to be outside and active in the open to increase overall physical wellbeing.”

Also speaking about the new program, Dr. Michael Bitzer, Chief Executive Officer, National Health Insurance Company – Daman, said: “Year on year we work to enhance this programme and in turn improve the health and wellbeing of the Abu Dhabi Community. By continuing to implement new touchpoints, such as online registration and at-home support, we hope to further engage residents of the Capital and encourage their commitment to this programme and their overall, long-term health.”

Interested participants and those looking to get in the running for the ultimate prize need to attend one of the three registration evenings taking place on 17, 19 and 20 September ahead of the classes kicking off officially on 22 September.

For the first time ever, participants will receive even more support to help reach their fitness goals, with bi-weekly educational seminars and free body scans, which will allow them to accurately measure their progress throughout their seven-week fitness journey.

At the completion of the seven-week programme and to finish Get Driver Fit on a runner’s high, participants and the general public will be welcomed to attend a family fitness festival held at the du Forum on Friday, 10 November. Ensuring all elements of a happy, healthy day out, the festival will offer various fitness classes, demonstrations, fitness talks, street sports, competitions, a family fun zone and food vendors, offering an activity for everyone.  

During the festival, the seven-week programme competitors will go head-to-head in the final Get Driver Fit Challenge, a physically challenging test integrating the diverse set of skills that participants have gained over the course of the programme. Two winners, one female and one male, will then be announced and rewarded with an escape to an exotic holiday destination.

To be eligible for the grand prize, participants must register for the programme and perform their fitness assessments at the launch event held at Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday 17 September, Tuesday 19 September or Wednesday 20 September from 6pm to 9pm.
