Sharjah’s residents and visitors have an exciting opportunity to participate in the emirate’s first ever ‘Throwdown’ a specially devised competition based on the popular CrossFit training exercise. Open to the public, the championship will take place at Al Majaz Waterfront’s Fountain Piazza on April 15, with an impressive total of AED 70,000 up for grabs for those taking part.
A maximum of 30 male and 20 female participants can take part in Sharjah’s Throwdown, with a number of invitations being given to athletes who have a high profile in the CrossFit scene. Organised in collaboration with ‘CrossFit Hour’ and broadcast live on Sharjah Sports Channel, the competition is in keeping with the Sharjah leadership’s aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle. Anyone keen to participate in the Throwdown can register by logging on to: www.crossfithour.com.
Mohammed Al Mazroui, Al Majaz Waterfront Manager, said; “Through organising the Throwdown, the first event of its kind in the region, we aim to reach out to all athletes and sporting enthusiasts in the UAE and GCC. Thanks to the generous total of AED 70,000 prize money on offer for participants, we are anticipating that there will be a significant number of male and female athletes applying – something that will ensure healthy competition for the event.”
CrossFit has been designed to offer all round body conditioning by incorporating the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more, as these exercises reflect the core movements of life. The discipline comprises constantly varied functional movements performed at a relatively high intensity.
Al Majaz Waterfront was selected as the ideal venue to host the Throwdown as it offers easy access from locations across the city. Its Fountain Piazza also provides a spectacular viewing area for the large number of spectators expected to turn out for the event. There are an array of food and beverage options for visitors who can also take advantage of the extensive gardens and attractions that Al Majaz Waterfront has to offer.
The AED 120 million Al Majaz Waterfront is a debut project from Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq).
