Sky News Arabia Set to Launch New Investigative Documentary Series

Nart Bouran: The investigative nature of the series adds a novel dimension to Arab documentaries

Sky News Arabia is set to launch an hour-long investigative documentary series on April 15 that will air an episode once every month exploring events and incidents that drive changes in the Arab world on the political, economic and social levels.
The new documentary series has been conceptualised to add a novel dimension to investigative reporting in the region through discussing real-time sensitive issues of relevance to Arab audiences with indepth on-the-ground reportage. Sky News Arabia has employed professional undercover investigative techniques to offer audiences a comprehensive analysis and shape their perception of current events. Each episode in the series will cover an exclusive subject, directly engaging with individuals that are involved and affected.
Speaking about the new series, Nart Bouran, Head of Sky News Arabia, said: “With the current pace of events and happenings in the region, Arab viewers are being exposed to a level of human suffering that is barely covered indepth or fully analysed. Through investigative documentaries, our role is to delve into important issues, dissect them, unravel complexities and answer some challenging questions.”
“We realize that the production of these documentaries subjects us to certain risks, but we are willing to go the extra mile to allow closer access to core issues and a well-rounded perspective to our viewers,” he added.
Nart Bouran noted that the new series will add a new dimension to the documentary-making process in the Arab world, given its authentic investigative spirit and its ability to openly discuss and analyse contemporary issues.
The series is part of a wider range of projects by Sky News Arabia, which is seeking to leverage innovation and state-of-the-art technology to break new ground in the regional media landscape.
This is the second documentary series by Sky News Arabia following ‘Alwaan Attaif’ that documents the life of religious and ethnic minorities in the Arab world. The program demonstrates the value minorities add to Arab societies while exploring the challenges and pressures they face.
In a short span of time, Sky News Arabia has successfully established a wide media presence in the Arab world. In addition to its bureaus in London and Washington, DC, symbiotic relationships with Sky News’ international bureaus have also enhanced the channel’s offerings and contributed to its success in the region.
