100 Colleagues from Jumeira Rotana and Villa Rotana Joins Car Free Day 2016

In support of the 7th Car Free Day 2016 organized by Dubai Municipality, 100 colleagues from Jumeira Rotana and Villa Rotana arrived by bus, used their bikes, walked, and used public transportation to get to work.

Car Free Day gives us the opportunity to consider the negative impact of using single cars and use more sustainable ways to get around and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and traffic congestion, such as walking, cycling, use of public transport like buses and metro.

During the day colleagues pledged to go car free whenever possible. As an incentive the colleagues with the best pledges received special prize from the hotel.

Car Free Day is an initiative pioneered by the Dubai Municipality for the first time in 2010, which is considered the first of its kind in the region, aiming to make Dubai a global sustainable city, and to prove its commitment towards the relevant international environmental conventions, which aims to reduce greenhouse gases emissions.

The initiative has evolved dramatically during the subsequent years, which is directly attributed to the growing community involvement from different governmental and semi-governmental sectors.

The number of cars off the road during the event went up to 30,000 in 2015 compared to 1,000 in 2010.
